AI Cost Board → LLMeter Migration Guide

Per-customer cost, not just per-project

AI Cost Board is a proxy you route traffic through to get per-project cost tracking. LLMeter goes further — per-customer cost and margin — without a proxy, and it is open-source. Set up in 30 seconds with a read-only key.

No credit card required. Free plan never expires.

Why migrate now?

Both show you LLM cost. The difference is the proxy, the granularity, and whether you can read the code.

Per-customer, not per-project

AI Cost Board attributes cost per project. LLMeter goes per-customer — plus feature and environment — and adds cost-vs-revenue margin.

No proxy in your path

AI Cost Board sits in your request path via a base URL change. LLMeter reads usage out-of-band with a read-only key — no proxy, no latency hop.

Open-source, not closed

AI Cost Board is closed source. LLMeter is open-source — read it, audit it, self-host it. No black box.

Migrate in 3 steps

No SDK installation. No code deployment. Just paste a key and go.

1

Sign up for LLMeter

Create a free account. No credit card required.

2

Paste your read-only API key

Go to your provider's dashboard, generate a read-only key, and paste it into LLMeter. That's it.

3

Revert your API base URL

Revert your API base URL back to the provider default — no proxy dependency. LLMeter reads usage with a read-only key.

No proxy. Deeper attribution.

AI Cost Board routes your LLM traffic through its proxy. LLMeter takes a fundamentally different approach.

AI Cost Board (proxy-based)

  • Requires a base URL change to route traffic
  • Sits in your request path on every call
  • Per-project granularity, closed source
  • The proxy sees all prompts and completions

LLMeter (API key-based)

  • Reads usage data directly from provider APIs
  • Zero impact on your LLM call latency or reliability
  • Per-customer cost and margin, open-source
  • Never sees your prompts or completions

Migration FAQ

Does LLMeter route my traffic through a proxy like AI Cost Board?

No. AI Cost Board is a proxy — you point your API base URL at it so it can see your requests. LLMeter never proxies traffic. It reads usage and billing data through a read-only API key, out-of-band, so there is no base URL change, no extra hop, and no new failure mode in your request path.

How does LLMeter calculate per-customer cost?

Per-customer cost is estimated from token counts. You tag each call with a customer_id using the open-source llmeter SDK or by POSTing to /api/ingest, and LLMeter applies current model pricing to those tokens. Provider-level totals — pulled through your read-only key — use the real billed amounts from the provider's usage API. So your top-line spend reconciles to the provider invoice, while the per-customer split is a token-based estimate.

What is the difference between per-project and per-customer cost?

AI Cost Board attributes cost per project. LLMeter attributes per customer, and also by feature and environment — so you can answer "which customer costs us the most?" not just "which project?". On top of that, LLMeter adds margin: cost against revenue per customer.

Is LLMeter free?

Yes — the Free plan supports 1 provider with 30-day retention, forever. The Pro plan ($19/mo) adds unlimited providers, alerts, anomaly detection, and 1-year retention. Team plans start at $49/mo.
